This presentation will review clinical decision support applications developed at Mayo Clinic for the ICU and ER and which are in use at Mayo Clinic hospitals. EMR Visualization, Early Detection, and Protocol Compliance Monitoring Can Reduce Errors and Improve Outcomes for Sepsis and Other Conditions
- Mayo Clinic’s sepsis sniffer accurately identified patients with severe sepsis that bedside clinicians failed to recognize and treat in a timely manner
- Compliance improvements of sepsis bundle implementation at Mayo Clinic Florida exceeded the original 30% improvement goal
- Visualization and better organization of EMR information in AWARE™ reduce ICU length of stays by 50% and hospital length of stays by 37%
- Reductions in errors by 46% in the ICU using Mayo Clinic’s AWARE ™
- Introductions of novel EMR interface led to more satisfaction among clinicians with 73% of respondents intending to use it further
- Total Charges for hospital stay for ICU patients in post AWARE™ cohort decreased by 30% (by $43,745 after adjusting for patient acuity and demographics)
